Overview

Kitchen by Mike CBD, located at 1/7 Bent Street in the heart of Sydney’s vibrant CBD, is a restaurant that perfectly captures the essence of wholesome, thoughtfully crafted dining. This spot is a hidden gem for those seeking a fresh, modern twist on comfort food with a health-conscious edge. The experience here feels intimate yet lively, with an atmosphere enriched by abundant greenery and a warm welcome from the staff, including the namesake Mike himself, who adds a personal touch to your visit.

The menu is concise, featuring around sixteen main dishes and a handful of desserts. This pared-back approach makes choosing a pleasure rather than a chore, focusing on quality over quantity. Highlights include the unbelievably fluffy and chewy sourdough bread, fresh from the oven, which is a perfect starter. Many guests rave about the cast iron skillet dishes— the pulled pork stands out with its rich flavors and satisfying texture— and the braised prawn with eggplant resting on black sesame rice crackers that showcase the kitchen’s attention to layering taste and texture.

Kitchen by Mike’s culinary philosophy shines through with its commitment to fresh, whole foods prepared using olive oil instead of processed alternatives. This choice not only enhances the flavor but supports gut health, a feature appreciated deeply by patrons with dietary sensitivities. The restaurant caters well to diverse dietary needs, offering a variety of vegan and dairy-free options without compromising on taste or creativity.

The dessert selection, though limited, is thoughtfully curated. Guests often mention nostalgic treats like delicate pound cakes with gingerbread or lemon icing— delicacies that are light yet indulgent, rounding off the meal on a high note. For those who stay late, the Bombe Alaska offers a spectacular finale that enthralls both visually and in flavor.

What sets Kitchen by Mike CBD apart is the balance it strikes between a relaxed, plant-filled ambiance and a menu that feels both nourishing and exciting. The space invites you to pause and savor every bite, making it ideal for food lovers who appreciate a calm respite amid Sydney’s bustling downtown. Whether you’re visiting for a hearty breakfast with a glass of Prosecco, a casual lunch, or an intimate dinner, the restaurant’s consistency and care promise an unforgettable experience.

Ultimately, Kitchen by Mike draws a discerning crowd that values fresh ingredients, clean eating, and a welcoming atmosphere. It’s a place where every dish tells a story of culinary passion and thoughtful preparation, making it a must-visit for locals and visitors alike seeking meaningful dining in Sydney’s CBD.

Biggest fluffiest chewiest piece of warm sourdough fresh out of the oven I’ve ever had, perfectly paired with butter. Honestly they gotta give less cuz that was a massive appetiser lol. Salads were delicious and clean, loved the pulled pork in the cast iron skillet. We ended with dessert which were little pound cakes? One was gingerbread and the other was lemon icing, not too heavy.

If someone plunged into my dreams and pulled out the most satisfying food fantasy, Kitchen by Mike would be it. This is exactly how food should be, lovingly prepared, wholesome and incredibly delicious. I almost didn't get the bread, as it felt like too much, but I'm glad I did. It was incredible, super fresh and squidgy yet crunchy. I even had the pleasure to meet the wonderful Mike, who serves at the counter. Thanks for the best lunch Mike. Better than Christmas!

We booked this restaurant through first table which means you need to be at the restaurant at the opening time to get 50% of your total bill upto 4 people max per table. The discount only applies to menu including drinks but not daily specials. I like the short menu of 16 dishes and 4 desserts which makes your selection easier to choose. Most of the dishes can be quite small which you will have to order a few to share otherwise you can keep asking for more bread. We order a few dishes and they were all delicious especially the braised prawn eggplant with black sesame rice cracker and last but not least the bomb Alaska for dessert to top the night.

This was such a delightful and delicious experience. The staff were knowledgeable, welcoming and pleasant. We’re only visiting Sydney for 3 days and are already plotting to come back for dinner. AWESOME SPOT! Must try. We got the breakfast omelet (best I’ve ever had!) and Prosecco.

As someone who has a difficult time finding places to eat at, as I am very aware of gut health, Kitchen by Mike has been by far the best place to eat at! The food is delicious and is cooked in olive oil instead of other processed oils such as vegetable and seed oils. It is also very filling, which leaves you feeling satisfied, however wanting more because it is just that delicious! Everything is fresh and wholefoods which we need more of in the world, so I am very grateful to have a restaurant that contributes to enhancing the wellbeing. There are plenty of vegan and dairy-free options, which honestly amazes me. The desserts are very delicious, they are healthy, yet they still give you the taste of nostalgia of the ones I use to eat as a kid. The people are every welcoming, making you feel comfortable to take your time when choosing your food. The atmosphere is very beautiful, and you are surrounded by plants. The whole place is just a vibe! In my opinion they ticked off all the checklist to ensure the best experience!

The food was very tasty with lots of vegan options and they easily catered with a set menu for both a vegan and a creature eater. The service was impeccable - the right amount of friendly, attentive without being in our faces, great recommendations. Good selection of wines by the glass. What a fantastic place to spend a long evening eating too much delicious food!

So this is fast food that doesn’t make you feel guilty. What a great find in the CBD. A short walk from Wynyard station is this gorgeous space serving absolutely delicious food. It gave me Ottolenghi vibes. Food is pre prepared. You turn up, decide how much you’d like to eat and pay accordingly. I tried the chicken with 2 side salads. Don’t forget to get a side of the sourdough - it’s sensational. Very generous servings. I paid $35. Fully licensed too if you feel like a vino… Will definitely be back. Gets busy for good reason …
